SMST Students Complete Marine Survey

  In order to improve students' operating and practical ability, the undergraduates from the School of Marine Science and Technology (SMST) carried out the Practical Program -- Marine Survey in Gaoshaling Coast from September 21 -27, 2020.

  This Practical Program is set up to help students grasp the essence of what they have learnt through practice, and also to foster cooperative spirit. Prof. Xu Degang, Deputy Dean of SMST, Prof. Zhang Anmin, Director of Marine Technology Department, Prof. Zhang Xuefeng, Deputy Director of Marine Technology Department participated in this Program together with the students.

  With a series of lectures on Safety Education as the beginning, the students visited the National Maritime Museum on September 23 to learn about the importance of protecting marine ecology, and to boost their confidence in building a maritime power.

  From September 24 to 27, the teachers from SMST, Zhang Xuefeng, Xu Jian and Wang Xing supervised students through the field survey in the ocean. The students boarded a ship, carried out multi-beam sounding, flow measurement with ADCP, CTD casting and bottom material sampling in groups.

  SMST insists on improving students' practical ability and enhancing their recognition of the ocean by means of various field practices. It’s reported that this Practical Program is part of Undergraduate Education System of SMST. Students will gain opportunities to use theoretical knowledge in practical studying under supervision.
