School of Marine Science and Technology, Tianjin University, Successfully Held the 10th Anniversary Celebration, and the Report on the Development of Marine Discipline

  The 2024 school year marks 10 years of the existence of the School of Marine Science and Technology, Tianjin University. On 20th October, 2024 the school held a the 10th Anniversary Celebration, and the Report on the Development of Marine Discipline.

  Hong Wang, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee for Environment and Resources Protection of the National People's Congress, Xianjin Yang, Secretary of the CPC Tianjin University Committee, Jiajun Li, former Secretary of the CPC Tianjin University Committee and Vice president of the Chinese Higher Education Society, Deren Li, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Xianglong Jin, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Jiayao Wang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Delu Pan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yingjin Yuan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yuanxi Yang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Liqiu Meng, Academician of the German Academy of Sciences and former Vice president of the Technical University of Munich, James McWilliams, Academician of the American Academy of Sciences and Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles, Wei'er Li, Director of the Marine Science Professional Teaching Guidance Committee of the Ministry of Education and former Cice president of Qingdao University, XiuGuo Liu, Assistant to the President of Tianjin University, Muhammad Sallehuddin Bin Mohd Dilif, Education Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia, Beijing, Yudil Chatim, Education Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Beijing, Trika Pitana, Dean of the School of Marine Engineering, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember in Surabaya, Indonesia, and nearly 200 guests from domestic institutions and enterprises related to the sea, as well as leaders, teachers, students, and alumni from various departments and units of Tianjin University attended the meeting. The meeting was hosted by Xiaolin Shan, Secretary of the CPC Committee of the School of Marine Science and Technology, Tianjin University.



  Xianjin Yang delivered a speech on behalf of the university. He affirmed a series of achievements made by the School of Marine Science and Technology in the past ten years since its establishment. For the future development of the school, he raised new expectations from four aspects: adhering to the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, continuously optimizing the disciplinary system construction, further deepening the synergy of science and education, and continuously strengthening international cooperation.



  Hong Wang congratulated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the school, and pointed out that universities should continue to strive to promote the integration of science and education, break down the barriers between education and science, and cultivate outstanding engineering talents who are capable of meeting the needs of the new quality of productive forces.



  Jiajun Li recalled the original intention and mission of the school in his speech, sincerely hoping that the school will continue to strive forward bravely and persevere in the future, achieving greater success.



  Vice Director of Tianjin Science and Technology Bureau, Zhendong Tan, congratulated the school on its 10th anniversary and affirmed the school’s achievements in the field of technology transfer.



  Muhammad Sallehuddin Bin Mohd Dilif, Education Counsellor at the Embassy of Malaysia, Beijing, Yudil Chatim, Education Counsellor at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Beijing congratulated on the 10th anniversary of the school, which recognizes the fruitful achievements in international cooperation and exchange between the school and universities in ASEAN countries.



  Jingsheng Zhai, the Dean of the School of Marine Science and Technology, Tianjin University, presented the development of the college from the perspectives of academic disciplines, talent cultivation, faculty team, and scientific research system, summarized the achievements obtained in the past ten years since the establishment of the college, and put forward the shortcomings and future development goals.



  Subsequently, Tianjin University signed an agreement with six research and development units of the Ministry of Natural Resources, including the National Ocean Technology Center, to jointly build a platform for ocean science and technology education and integration.



  The eight academicians and experts who attended the conference, including Academician Deren Li, Academician Xianglong Jin , Academician Jiayao Wang , Academician Dehu Pan, Academician Yingjin Yuan, Academician Yuanxi Yang, Academician Liaoqiu Meng, and Academician James McWilliams, each brought a message of congratulations for the 10th anniversary of the School of Marine Science and Technology.



  Finally, the participants enjoyed a cultural performance put on by students from the school. The students' outstanding performance won them warm applause from the guests.



  After the ceremony, the academic forum on the development of marine disciplines and a teaching forum were held. Thus, the 10th Anniversary Celebration, and the Report on the Development of Marine Discipline came to a successful conclusion.



  Ten years of dedication has nurtured talents. With careful thinking and diligence, we have cultivated outstanding young people. The 10th anniversary of the establishment of the school is not only a milestone in the history of its development, but also a new starting point for achieving greater success in the future. The school will seize the opportunity of its 10th anniversary celebration to remain true to its original aspiration and mission, and make new and greater contributions to the advancement of science and technology and social development for the benefit of the country!
