After four months’ competition, the 2020 China-ASEAN "Learning about Ocean" Student Film Competition (SFC) organized by the ASEAN-China Smart Ocean Center (ACSOC) at Tianjin University came to an end and held a closing ceremony online. More than 100 students from 23 universities in 5 countries participated the competition and submitted a total of 69 films.
During the ceremony, Ms. Zhen Zhang, the director of Tianjin University’s Office of International Cooperation delivered a speech and expressed her gratitude to everyone that supported SFC. She hoped that ACSOC would continue to work hard and make continuous contributions to marine education, personnel exchanges and international cooperation between ASEAN and China.
Mr. Tanzhou Qu, the director of the Science Popularization Committee of the Chinese Society of Oceanography and the Former Director of the Department of Science and Technology of the State Oceanic Administration, noted in his speech that "Learning about ocean" was a necessary prerequisite and foundation for scientific knowledge of the ocean. He encouraged young students of ASEAN and China to strengthen the heritage and communication of marine culture, and promote the "Belt and Road" Initiative together.
Mr. Wei Haur Lam, the fellow of ASEAN Academy of Engineering and Technology said that popularization of science was an important way to pass on culture. “Through this competition, we can strengthen the public's concern and understanding of marine scientific research and marine environmental protection in ASEAN and China” Wei said, adding that scientific researchers should make more efforts for the popularization of science.
Professor Kexin Wei, Deputy Director of the ASEAN-China Smart Ocean Center, announced the list of winners, ten groups as the first prize winners and twenty groups as the second prize winners.
Annisa and Gustiana, two students from ITERA (Indonesia), said excitedly, "We will never forget the moment we stepped on the campus of Tianjin University last summer. We gained knowledge and friendship in Tianjin. This year, due to the COVID-19epidemic, we have to participate in the SFC organized by ACSOC online, but we still gained a lot."
It is reported that the video contest aims to promote the communication between ASEAN and China, cultivate students' innovative and creative consciousness, promote win-win cooperation in higher education between ASEAN and China, promote and incubate the excellent marine science reserve force, and further encourage more excellent marine talents to devote themselves to the cause of science popularization.
