Zhang Lixinspeaks on behalf of Tianjin University.

Zhang Lixin, President Assistant of Tianjin University delivered a speech on behalf of Tianjin University. He congratulated the organizers of the symposium for making the event happen and expressed his sincere welcome to all experts from ASEAN, domestic universities and other participating institutions. He pointed out that the symposium had provided a valuable platform for promoting the development and application of marine Beidou technology and strengthening scientific and technological cooperation and exchanges within ASEAN. “The symposium will surely improve the internationalization of Tianjin University,” Zhang acknowledged.

Dr. Darunee Promchot of the Thailand Geographic Information and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), Professor Sura Pattanakiat of the Mahidol University of Thailand, Trika Pitana, Director of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, and Dr. Wirote Laongmanee of the Burapha University of Thailand delivered special reports on the important role of marine management, marine GNSS development, geo-informatics applications and automatic ship identification systems in marine safety and environmental protection in Thailand. They hoped that with the marine Beidou technology, accurate positioning in the areas of geographical mapping, disaster prediction, environmental protection and management could be achieved.

(Clockwise: Hu Bin, Professor Fu Xiaomei and Professor Yang Dongkai)

Hu Bin, President of Changsha Beidou Safety Research Institute reported on the construction of the Beidou Open Laboratory, Beidou resources and personnel training.

Professor Yang Dongkai of Beihang University delivered a report entitledApplication of Ocean Remote Sensing of Beidou Reflection Signalsand introduced in detail the related concepts of GNSS-R, the design and fabrication principle of Beihang GNSS-R and its application in the ocean.

Professor Fu Xiaomei from Tianjin University’s School of Marine Science and Technology, gave a report on theAnalysis of Multipath Characteristics of Marine Beidou Signalsand expounded the current experimental research methods and progress on the multipath characteristics of marine Beidou signals, which provided important ideas and thoughts for the future development of marine Beidou technology.

After the academic reports, the participants held discussions on the development and application of technical functions of marine Beidou technology; regional reception, management and sharing of Beidou data; exchange visits among scholars; and the joint training of students. They all indicated that they would further strengthen cooperation and carry out joint research projects in the future.

“Beidou serves China and the world”. The Symposium focused on the current situation and prospects of the development of Beidou technology in the marine field, and actively explored international cooperation and research on the marine Beidou technology. It has provided a platform for domestic and foreign researchers to learn and exchange, set up a bridge of communication and cooperation between the two sides, and has been highly praised by the experts and scholars attending the Symposium.

Tianjin University responded positively to the “Belt and Road Initiative”, led the Excellence 9 Chinese universities and 8 ASEAN universities to establish ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchanges among Engineering and Technology Universities(ACNET-EngTech)in 2014. Based on the platform of the Alliance, the School of Marine Science and Technology established China-ASEAN Smart Ocean Center, China-Indonesia Smart Ocean Center and China-ASEAN Smart Ocean Education Center in 2017, and provided more practical platforms for cooperation and exchanges between Chinese and ASEAN universities.
